The two bookmakers, Sportsbet and Centrebet, told the Sydney Morning Herald they would not pay out on the bets until the first African-American U.S. president takes office in January.
A spokesman for Centrebet told the paper it was a matter of policy.
The Herald said its story was prompted by a punter who said a senior official at Sportsbet had refused to pay out on a bet citing assassination fears.
Sportsbet chief executive Matt Tripp denied this was the company’s main concern.
“God forbid he has a stroke or gets hit by a bus,” Tripp told the paper. “I love the bloke. I want to pay out on him. I think he is good for America and good for the world.”

Abbi Vincent-Lloyd said the stress of seeing gigantic hot-air balloons over their heads led the hens to run for shelter in a panicked state that caused them to bump into one another and rupture the eggs inside of them, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
Vincent-Lloyd said post-mortems performed on the hens found they died of peritonitis, an infection caused by their eggs bursting inside their bodies.
“I had lost about 15 birds when I decided to have the vet do a post mortem on two of them,” the farmer said. “I told the vet about the hot-air balloons and jets flying low over the farm and straight away he said that was the cause.”
“As soon as the gas is released to raise the balloon they go absolutely crazy,” she said. “It is absolute chaos, when they go into anything and that causes the egg to explode inside them. The fragments of the egg and its contents then infect them and then they die from it — it’s a horrible way to go.”

The girls’ bizarre behaviour caused firefighters to shut down the secondary school where the incident occurred yesterday.
All of the 53 girls, as well as two boys, who experienced the unexplained fit were evacuated to the capital’s main hospital.
“The phenomenon started in one of the classrooms of the 5th standard girls,” said Adina Aidara, the principal of the Lamine Gueye Secondary School in Dakar where the strange event occurred.
“Three students, all girls, fell down. The same phenomenon was repeated 30 minutes later during recess – this time involving high schoolers. We called the fire department to evacuate the victims.”
The incident began at 9am. By 1pm, the school had sent 55 students to the hospital in ambulances, all but two of whom were girls, he said.
“It’s an event that is completely out of the ordinary,” said Mr Aidara.
Colonel Diene Faye of the local fire brigade said the scale of the phenomenon prompted officials to close down and isolate the high school.
At the city’s central hospital, anguished parents fussed over their daughters. Several allowed their girls to be interviewed only on condition that their name not be published.
A 15-year-old girl in the hospital ward, who spoke with her mother that her side, said that she was in the middle of chatting with a friend. “Suddenly I had a horrible headache. It hurt so much that I started screaming. And then I fainted. From that moment on, I no longer knew where I was,” she said.
Another teenage girl, also interviewed alongside her family, said: “I don’t know what happened. I suddenly felt like my forehead was sweating. I felt my body vibrating. I cried out loudly. It was as if there was a power greater than myself that was inside my body. I don’t know what happened after that.”
Senegal’s minister of education Moustapha Sourang visited the school yesterday and ordered that classes be suspended for 48 hours while the ministry investigated.
Immediately after the incident, Dakar was abuzz with rumours of evil spirits and of supernatural retaliation. Some say the girls were being punished for having dressed immodestly.
But Dr Ababacar Wilane, chief of psychiatry at the hospital, tried to put the stories of demons and spells to rest, saying: “The most vulnerable among them were probably caught up in the moment and succumbed to a kind of domino effect,” when they saw the others fainting and screaming.
It is not the first incidence of mass hysteria in Senegal.
On Monday, a local newspaper reported that in the town of Podor in northern Senegal, 16 girls had fainted simultaneously.
“Sixteen girls fell into a collective hysteria. Some people believe they were possessed by an invisible force. The victims screamed and rolled on the ground,” wrote the daily newspaper, ‘Le Matin’.

Had to do a little research here. Good, found it. ‘ Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ and shall deceive many. ……….and many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many. {Matt 24-4 & 11}.
Skynews.com reports that 14 members of a Russian doomsday cult {out of 35} have emerged after 6 months in an underground bunker {in the Penza region of central Russian}. This was a result of a landslide occurring inside the underground shelter. The group {including children} entered the cave last October awaiting the end of the world in May or April this year according to their leader. Seven left the dugout over the weekend.
Now let me see if I understand this correctly. God through the leader predicted the end of the world in May or April. Hmmm. Apparently God did not know precisely which month beforehand it would be. Secondly, decided it was best to hide in a bunker. Again God did not know beforehand that the bunker would be prone to landslides. Thirdly then told the group to leave before they all die underground. I see.
To quote a famous line from a character on the Lenny Henry show, ‘I DON’T THINK SO’.
Hah but that isn’t all folks. ‘The sect’s leader Pyotr Kuznetsov did not join his followers in the cave because {get this}, he told them God had different tasks for him. My, my, my, whatever could that be!!!!!!!.
Here’s how I see this. Cult leader told followers the world will end in 7 months time. Best way was to hide in a cave after you will be protected from everything above the surface. Did not join them because the poor chap DID NOT BELIEVE HIS OWN MESSAGE!!!!.
Now some may say God use the landslide to shake them out of their illusion. Apparently so, since nothing else work, even their leader fail in that attempt. Oh by the way did I mention that Pyotr Kuznetsov is schizophrenic?. The article ends with ‘ the cult is said to be a splinter group of the Russian Orthodox Church that believes bar-codes are the work of satan.
I think the buzz word now is RFID tags.
Let’s hope the remaining 14 are alive as well.
