Prime Minister David Thompson is back in Barbados three weeks after flying to New York to seek medical treatment, but he is not yet back on the job. It’s unclear when he will resume duties.
Thompson, who it was recently announced has pancreatic cancer, flew out to the New York Presbyterian Hospital on Monday September 6th to seek treatment for a clot in the veins around the pancreas. It was 10 days later that the Prime Minister’s physician, Dr Richard Ishmael, revealed to the nation the nature of Thompson’s illness.
Dr Ishmael said at the time that Thompson had been undergoing chemotherapy to shrink the tumour in the pancreas and had been responding well to treatment.
He also insisted that the Prime Minister was physically well enough to continue leading the country.
