Barbadians from all walks of life were able to hear Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joy St. John on CBC TV Tuesday night confirming 73 cases of the H1N1 which represent ‘only a fraction of the real figure’ and the overwhelming pressure being place on the polyclinics and the hospital due to the upsurge.
As I sat listening to the lady, waiting for some concrete measures, the Ministry of Health would be undertaking to dealt with the ongoing flu-like symptoms which in some if not all cases would translate into the H1N1 influenza virus, the most the Chief could recommend was increase treatment for high-risk groups. Extending it to children under 5 years and persons with chronic illness like diabetes, asthma and sickle cell. Nothing about isolating persons in a separate facility!
