Race On For English Millionth Word

The Indian term of praise “Jai ho” and popular word “slumdog” from the Oscar prize winner “Slumdog Millionaire” are among the 73 other finalists from across the globe to become the millionth English word, reported the private Indo-Asian News Service on Saturday.

The Global Language Monitor, a U.S.-based firm that analyzes and catalogues the latest trends in word usage and word choices, will choose the millionth word on June 10 at 1022 GMT, said the report. Read more of this post

Mystery Surrounds Carradine’s Death

Thai police said on Monday that the cause of U.S. actor David Carradine’s death in a Bangkok hotel room would not be known until they had the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests in a month’s time.

 The police refused to give further details about their investigation into the 72-year-old actor’s mysterious death, amid intense media speculation about causes ranging from suicide to murder via accidental autoerotic asphyxiation.

“We are still investigating but we will not make any assumptions about his death until we have gathered all the facts,” the deputy Bangkok police chief, Lieutenant-General Amnoy Nimmino, told a news conference. Read more of this post

Apple Launches Faster 3G S iphone

Apple Inc. introduced a faster model of the iPhone and cut the price of its current version, responding to competition from Research In Motion Ltd. and Palm Inc.’s Pre.The new iPhone 3G S opens applications and Web pages up to twice as fast as the current version, Apple said yesterday at its developers’ conference in San Francisco.
