This And That – Part 2

The weekend is here. Bringing with it overcast skies, peekaboo sunshine and a slight chill in the air. It’s the rainy season. A friend of mime is having the luxury of skipping work today to watch test cricket at the Oval between the Windies and Aussies and I just avoided spilling hot ginger tea on my breakfast.

Reading an article in today’s Weekend Nation on page 20, work had started on a road in Mile-And-Quarter St.Peter days before the elections but as mysteriously as it was started, the construction on the same road mysteriously stopped.

So why nearly spilled my tea? Well I found it humourous. First time the road saw any action in 20 years. It was done in the middle of the night as if a crime was being committed! To put more spin on the issue road fixers in this country namely MTW and RDC have no records on the construction of the road. And finally the road could not be finished because the BLP lost the elections! But wait I ain’t finish yet. If the Bees had won the elections would the said road come out of the darkness to see the light of day?

But this is Caribbean politics. Fix a few roads, start a few last minute projects, a whole heap of promises to their respective supporters or the public during election times and we fall for it all the time. What makes the situation much more ridiculous in St.Peter is the fact that the representative of the parish was the former PM. Besides boosting high end projects little was done to improve the lives of the ordinary folks in St.Peter.

Now you see why PM Thompson have to do rehabilitation  work in St.John. Can’t afford to leave such a poor record behind like Owen who will never have the chance remedy his record.

Jet ski and all that

The Midweek Nation took the opportunity to splash the PM and his wife on the front page riding a jet ski. Now that’s what I called a family man. For those who believe the PM should better spend his time dealing with energy matters or new cars prices get a life. The man is human. All work and no play make Jack a dumb boy. He is also a down to earth person enjoying the simple things in life. Now me I always wonder why  tourists should come to my beautiful island enjoying it better than me that resides on it. Apparently the PM shares my view also!
